BreakingNews.ie
Ireland's national breaking-news platform — high-traffic news delivery built to Square1's strict SEO and performance bar.
Problem
A national news brand needed to publish breaking stories at speed without sacrificing the SEO and performance that drives its organic traffic — the core tension on any high-traffic newsroom platform.
Solution
Built as part of Square1's PublisherPlus team on Laravel, Alpine.js, and Tailwind with Blade templates, applying the same standards across the newsroom stack: a minimum Lighthouse SEO score of 95, JSON-LD structured data, srcset image optimization, lazy loading, and aggressive bundle reduction as project-wide defaults.

Details
Part of Square1’s PublisherPlus roster of newspaper, radio, and publishing platforms. Now owned by The Irish Times DAC per the live site’s footer, and winding down as a standalone site — a reminder that news platforms have a shelf life even when the engineering behind them doesn’t.
